Few Places in Japan Allow You to Stay with Cats
When traveling with pets in Japan, you can find pet-friendly hotels, but most of them do not allow cats. It’s understandable since cats scratch furniture and can’t be fully trained.
Among such limited options, I found a rare place where cats are welcome, so I stayed one night with my two cats.
“Inu to Neko ni Yasashii Oyado” (A Pet-Friendly Inn for Dogs and Cats)
I went to Kyoto and stayed at an inn called “Inu to Neko ni Yasashii Oyado.” Just as the name suggests, both dogs and cats are welcome.
The entrance was already adorable. The “Cat Room”—even the name is cute. The dog room was named “Dog Room.”
Inside the Room Where You Can Stay with Cats
The room is filled with cat play areas between the bed and the relaxation space. Amazing.
While the humans were excited, the cats hid under the bed for a while.
There were even goods for cat lovers—very cute.
The sink area was also well-equipped with items that are very helpful for cat owners.
Let’s Play with the Cats
Using Churu, I lured them out from under the bed. Churu is incredible.
First, they checked the smell of the room to make sure it was safe.
They finally got used to it. There’s also a large cage, so some cats might prefer it, but mine started playing freely.
Once one cat got comfortable, the other started playing too. After climbing up, they paused as if thinking:

So I helped them whenever they seemed unsure.
Review

- Bring Churu because some cats take time to adjust
The room is clean and enjoyable for humans, but the inn is truly designed to entertain cats. Since cats are sensitive to new environments, giving them time and using Churu can help them adjust smoothly (depends on the cat).
They were moving so much that it was hard to take good photos, but there are many photo-worthy corners that make the stay fun.
