What is Detective Conan?

Detective Conan is a hugely popular Japanese mystery anime.
The main character, Conan, was transformed into an elementary school kid one day and continues solving various cases while trying to regain his original body.
What Is Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport?

Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport is a fully Conan-themed airport located in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture.
It was created because the author of Detective Conan, Gosho Aoyama, is from Tottori.
If you take the train, get off at Tottori University Station and walk about 20 minutes.
I went by car, and since the airport entrance is right in front of the parking area, getting in was extremely smooth.
Inside the airport, there are countless photo spots.
Honestly, it makes you wonder:
“Do planes really take off from here? Isn’t this an attraction facility?”
The airport is packed with photo backdrops and souvenir corners, so planning your route in advance based on crowd levels makes the visit smoother.
Café Poirot
If you’re a fan of Toru Amuro, you absolutely cannot skip this spot.

Café Poirot is the café located below the Mouri Detective Agency in the anime.
Amuro—one of the most popular characters in the series—starts working there partway through the story.
Even if you’re not familiar with Conan, this place is still worth visiting because it becomes a great conversation topic.
The interior is detailed, and the airport even displays plates signed by the cast.
Trick Art Area

One of the most eye-catching zones inside the airport.
You can take photos with Conan riding a camel—perfect for combining “Tottori vibes” with Conan.
For the best result, have someone take the photo from above and crop it afterward.
Kids’ Corner

This play area is themed after Teitan Nursery School, where Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri supposedly went as children.
There are puzzles, toy clocks, and more.
You can take photos that look like your child is actually attending the school.
I don’t have kids and graduated kindergarten long ago, but I still enjoyed it normally.
Can You Enjoy the Airport Even If You’re Not a Conan Fan?

Honestly, I’m not very knowledgeable about Conan.
I know the main characters and popular ones, but I don’t know their personalities in detail.
It’s not that I dislike the anime—my parent loved detective shows too much and I just stopped watching them.
Even so, I enjoyed the airport a lot.

Fans will recognize every little detail and probably have an incredible time.
But even if, like me, you barely know Conan, the photo spots are easy to understand and you naturally pick up knowledge as you walk around.
Unlike typical “pilgrimage spots” based on anime locations, this airport feels more like visiting a museum.
The entire airport feels like an art installation dedicated to Conan.
Tourist Spots Around Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport
Tottori Sand Dunes

The most iconic place in Tottori.
Although SNS photos may make it look empty, the reality is that people from all over the world visit.
Hakuto Shrine

A shrine full of rabbit motifs.
It’s the setting of the myth The White Rabbit of Inaba and is known as a matchmaking shrine.
There are many rabbit-themed souvenirs nearby, and the surrounding area has walking paths inspired by the myth.
Conan-Related Spots
• Conan’s House: Beika Shopping Street (includes a café inspired by Café Poirot)
• Conan Street (statues of characters along the road)
• Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory
There are so many Conan-related spots that one day isn’t enough.
Impressions of Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport
• Since there are so many photo spots, planning your route ahead helps
• If you have children, the kids’ area is a must—feels like entering Teitan Nursery School
• “Sunaba Coffee,” a famous local café, is also inside the airport
I’ve been to airports not only in Japan but also around the world.
Many airports promote their country or region, but this is likely the only one focused entirely on a single anime.

The airport is compact and easy to explore, and having Sunaba Coffee inside is a nice bonus.
The souvenir shop is large and fun to browse, and you naturally learn more about Conan.
Since you can take photos with many characters, deciding your outfit or poses beforehand makes the experience even more fun.
If you do “nuito” (photos with plushies), bringing your favorite plush or acrylic stand is highly recommended.
