An Abandoned Amusement Park in the Kanto Region

There are many types of abandoned spots such as abandoned hospitals and closed-down schools, but entering them is usually illegal.
When I asked a friend about a legal abandoned spot in the Kanto area, they recommended an abandoned amusement park in Ibaraki, so they took me there. The amusement park is called Gama Land.
How to Access Gama Land

If you don’t have a car, you can reach it by train via Miyawaki Station, or take the Tsukuba Skyline bus and get off at the final stop Tsutsujigaoka (※check seasonal schedules). The mountain road is winding, so it’s wise to bring motion-sickness medicine.
On the way from Tokyo, we stopped by Seicomart, a convenience store chain found only in Hokkaido, Saitama, and Ibaraki. Their famous Hokkaido-style fried chicken “Zangi” is delicious.
Arriving at Gama Land

I imagined a unique abandoned amusement park would be a very popular photo spot, but it was surprisingly quiet with only a few visitors. A large frog statue at the entrance seems to be the main photo spot — if you bring something like Kerokerokeroppi, you could take some fun pictures.
Exploring the Abandoned Amusement Park

Walking further in, you’ll find rusted, decaying rides scattered around. The few visitors there were all busy taking photos.

A character that looks like something you’d see in a pharmacy is staring blankly with white eyes, sitting on something. Apparently, her name is “Satoko-chan.”

This is “Sato-chan.” No idea if he’s Satoko-chan’s boyfriend, but his face is still recognizable. It makes you wonder what dramatic event might have happened here… Imagining the backstory is half the fun. There’s also a rocket-like structure nearby you can enter, though deciding how to pose inside is difficult.

An old game machine that Hello Kitty might have played decades ago. Sitting across from the Kitty figure gives you a nostalgic feeling.

Looking at the game machine from the spiral staircase creates an indescribable mood — a feeling that might not even have a name.

Recently, inbound tourists have increased, but what would Australians think when they see this? Whether it excites them is a mystery — the character’s eyes are strangely cute though.

There was an attraction that looked exciting, so I peeked inside.

I felt that if I tried sliding down, I would either get stuck or be transported to another dimension, so I decided not to.
Impressions of Gama Land

• Recommended for those who want to feel nostalgic
• There are many photogenic spots, so having a concept helps
• Visit while it’s still not crowded
If you enjoy unique or unusual places, this is highly recommended. With kimono, western outfits, or even school uniforms, you can take creative photos or film MV-style videos. Even just capturing the scenery is enjoyable.
